San Francisco 49er fans wont have to look far to watch Aldon Smith play somewhere else in the NFL this season. Aldon Smith has signed a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders just month after Smith was released in early August by the 49ers who released the Linebacker after he was arrested for his third DUI.
Smith, who recorded 44 sacks in his four years with the 49ers, will now take his talents across the bay along side the Raiders’ star sophomore defensive-end Khalil Mack who recorded 59 total tackles and four sacks in his rookie season. Though it is uncertain if Smith will face a suspension and if so, how long, the two will make quite the dynamic duo for the Black and Silver.
The Raiders have seemed to come out pretty clean in this whole situation, considering they are taking in a chance on a guy who has had multiple run-ins with the law. The Raiders are being viewed as trying to help the Pro Bowl linebacker up from the bad situation he was left in last month. On top of the Raiders coming out of this smelling like daisies, they’re getting a pretty good deal and have little to lose taking a chance on Smith.
Smith is one of many San Francisco 49er starters to depart after last season, including current Michigan head football coach, Jim Harbaugh. Smith was released from the team after being arrested for hit and run, DUI (two priors) and vandalism.
